These #photographs, which are scans from prints on paper, were captured during James' first ever visit to the UK and EU from 1990-1991. What we have learnt is that it's really important to write names on photographs so we're now making a bigger effort to include names in our digital file names.
These are not "professional images" and they should not be read as such. They include obvious processing errors and images that have shadows and exposure problems from low lighting. Remember the camera was a Canon point and shoot that was not a SLR so they are surprisingly good.
They are an interesting novelty item that contain interesting historical documentary such as the cars on the streets and the fashions and their archival purpose is to round out the photography and travel archives here.
The Journey went Perth, Malaysia, Thailand, UK, EU, Malaysia, Perth so asute photo album readers will notice that not all locations are represented on this page. That's because the prints on paper archives have not been properly examined yet and so more images will appear here in the fullness of time.
Reading Photographs from such a long time ago is a very interesting experience. It's clear that we used to read photographs very differently and the image making process led to different relationships between the photographer and the image.
The Relationship between People and Landscapes has certainly changed. It would appear that photography in the early 1990s was about creating a record of a journey so pictures of landscapes taken then seem to include people, even if they are jammed in the corner with their feet cropped off.
The landscapes that do stand on their alone are surprisingly lovely so we're including them here. Interestingly James' being a "always moving forward person", did not return to some of the places so it's nice to see these archives published.
The Cost of Film developing for folks traveling on a budget resulted in a scarcity of photographs! Two rolls of film were used on the NYE trip from London to Glasgow via Carlisle and the Lake District this editing suggested. We know there are more of the black and white images to be found.
As always, Keep Smiling!
These are two galleries that will be "under construction" for a while. We're still working on the People photographs, digging around photo boxes, so come back later when the page has been tarted up a bit with more images and some new anecdotes!
